The Assembly Government has announced a pounds 486,000 boost for beleaguered Welsh honeybees.
The money will enable the National Bee Unit (NBU) to implement Britain's new Healthy Bees plan - a 10-year project to combat the serious decline in honeybee numbers.
Initial measures include identifying all amateur beekeepers. Advisory and inspection visits will also be stepped up.
Rural affairs minister Elin Jones said: "Honeybees contribute directly to local food production, which is key to the environmentally sustainable farming we are promoting in Wales. Their importance therefore cannot be overestimated."
